Georgia Restaurant Adds Extra $50 Charge For ‘Adults Unable To Parent’ Their Kids

In this day and age, it isn't unusual for crazy fees to be tacked onto your purchases; whether dining out at a restaurant, renting an Airbnb, or enjoying any public activity. But the fee that one Georgia restaurant has added on has bought quite the surprise.

Toccoa Riverside Restaurant has now gone viral for adding a surcharge for parents who are unable to parent their unruly kids while dining in at the facility. Some parents who have been to the restaurant have spoken up against the policy and the charge.

Screenshots of the charge were posted to Reddit by a member. "Adult surcharge: For adults, unable to parent $$$" the menu read.

"Honestly, whoever wrote this sounds like a nightmare," one user commented.

"If they up charged me $50 for just having a kid there, I'd be asking Capital One to charge it back," another person said.

While the menu doesn't say how much the charge is, Google reviews revealed that some parents were told they'd have a $50 charge added to their bill. And you really wouldn't believe it until you read some of these reviews.

"If you have children, absolutely avoid this place at all costs," one review read. "Holy moly – the most disrespectful owner made a huge scene in front of the entire restaurant because our children were 'running through the restaurant' – they were down by the river.. we were told we need to 'go to Burger King and Walmart' and that we were bad parents. They have a $50 surcharge for 'bad children'. We were a group of 21 and our server was AMAZING and was overly apologetic. Terrible business practice, we will never be back."

"The owner came out and told me he was adding $50 to my bill because of my children’s behavior," another review said. "My kids watched a tablet until the food arrived, ate their food and my wife took them outside while I waited and paid the bill. Pretty sure the owner is doing drugs in the back. Disappointed by the experience."

Even though some reviews didn't note being charged, it seems like the owner just doesn't like kids in the restaurant.

"Don’t go if you have children," one reviewer wrote. "We were 3 adults, 2 children and our 4mo baby and since we entered to the place they gave us a bad look. Later my wife was rocking the baby (not crying, just to make him sleep) and this 'manager' told her that you don’t do that in a fancy restaurant (of course this is not a fancy restaurant) and later moved our stroller in a bad way. Food is not good either. Do yourself a favor a go somewhere else."

The owner of the restaurant told Atlanta News First that the surcharge rarely gets used. He noted that a group would have to be "particularly bad" for the charge to be brought up in conversation.

Alongside the adult surcharge, the restaurant has a slew of other charges that many find ridiculous. There's a "share charge" of $3, which means it costs extra if you decide to share your plate of food with someone else. Gratuity of 20% may also be added to parties over 6, to tables paying with separate checks, and to anyone who purchases food from the birthday menu.

"He seems pretty greedy," one Reddit user said. "Looking for non sense reasons to charge people extra."
