Chicago Preschooler Killed In Front Of His Mom And Siblings In Road Rage Shooting

An act of violence occurred on Friday September 30, 2022, in Chicago. A road rage incident left a 3-year-old boy dead. An unknown gunman shot and killed Mateo Zastro in front of his mother and three siblings.

The shooting took place in Chicago’s West Lawn neighborhood at around 8:30 p.m. Mateo’s mother had gotten into an altercation with an unidentified male driver. She attempted to flee the scene of the dispute.

The unidentified male was able to catch up with her. He is believed to have been driving a red Dodge Charger or a red Ford Mustang. He fired several shots, one of which struck and killed Mateo.

Mateo was sitting in the backseat of his mother's car at the time of the shooting. He was seated next to his brother. Mateo’s mother and three other siblings were not physically injured in the shooting.

Eighth District Commander Bryan Spreyne spoke at a press conference about the tragic incident. He said, “We will not rest until those responsible for this senseless and cowardly act of violence are brought to justice.”
