This ‘Roller Coaster’ Bridge In Japan Might Give You Panic Attack!

Gephyrophobia is a clinical fear of bridges. If you don't have it already, one look at this bridge may inspire it in you. The "roller coaster" bridge appears to shoot straight for the sky, then completely drop off. Located in Japan to connect the cities of Matsue and Sakaiminato, the Eshima Ohashi Bridge was built so high to allow fishing boats to pass through underneath.

The bridge is about a mile long, but fortunately when actually driving across it, the bridge isn't as steep as it appears. Cars slowly ascend to the top to ensure safety. The bridge's incline is more of an optical illusion than a gravity-defying oddity. Still, if you're unfamiliar with the bridge, approaching it in an automobile might leave you apprehensive.

However, while the Eshima Ohashi Bridge might leave you on the edge of your seat and steering wheel, it doesn't come close to the highest bridge in the world. The Sidu River Bridge is a 4,000-foot suspension bridge. Located in China's Hubei Province, it is 1,627 feet high. If you have a hard time imagining that, just think about the Empire State Building. The structure known for its height is only 1,454 feet, and that's including the antenna spire!
