As someone who can be pretty forgetful sometimes (or most of the time, if I'm being honest), you can often find me scribbling a quick note on the back of my hand or spot the remnants of not-quite-washed-off reminders. It's something I started as a teen, and though my parents weren't fond of the habit, they were happy to see me finally remembering to do my chores and homework.
The artist featured below, however, takes that method to a whole new level with his creative technique. You really never know where an artist will find their inspiration, like the woman who crafts intricate portraits out using needle and thread rather than paint. There's also the man who likes to go out with a bang on his designs.
Though Russell Powell doesn't use any of those unorthodox materials, relying on ordinary acrylic paint, it's the way he uses it that truly takes my breath away.
Beautiful portraits like this are already stunning with the way Russell Powell blends the details together.
He frequently features a powerful wild animal element in his illustrations.
However, watching him create the images is what really makes these works of art stand out above the rest.
He begins by carefully painting his designs onto the palm of his hand.
Then, Powell pressed his hand onto the paper to transfer it onto a more permanent canvas.
He then repeats the process to add more details and complete the ethereal collage. Hit play on the video below to see the process in action!
I can honestly say I've never seen an artist quite like this! You can find more awesome artwork over on Powell's Instagram page.
