Starting in 2013, Ryan Gosling became the center of a hilarious series on Vine called “Ryan Gosling Won’t Eat His Cereal,” which showed exactly that.
The clips included a random selection of his movie scenes and interviews along with a spoon coming into frame to feed The Notebook star. Each time, it looked as if Gosling flung the spoon or made a grimace at the sight of cereal.
Although the actor wasn’t involved with the popular videos in any way, he paid tribute to the creator, Scottish filmmaker Ryan McHenry, upon hearing of his death. The 27-year-old passed away on May 3, 2015 after a two-year battle with osteosarcoma.
In McHenry’s honor, Gosling joined Vine and made a video, in which he actually ate his cereal.
“My heart goes out to all of Ryan McHenry's family and friends. Feel very lucky to have been apart [sic] of his life in some small way,” Gosling also tweeted.
Aside from his posts about the actor, McHenry also shared personal videos updating his fans about his struggle with cancer. A group of Vine users also started an online crowdfunding campaign for the internet sensation called “Ryan McHenry won’t eat his cancer” and raised close to $11,000. Through it all, McHenry remained optimistic.
"A lot of my positivity has come down to knowing that I’ve got a small audience out there," he told The Verge in 2013. "I kind of feel like I need to be positive for them. If I was on my Twitter or on my Vine being really negative, like ‘this is the worst thing ever, this is horrible,’ it just wouldn’t be nice for people to hear."
