Sarah Hrabak was driving down Interstate 180 in Brooklyn, Ohio, when she witnessed a horrific accident. A car was completely overturned. Sarah, who's a nurse, kicked into high gear. Then she noticed the unthinkable. Baby wipes, diapers, and clothes were strewn about the road. Once Sarah realized there was a baby inside of that car, like Marine Matias Ferreira, she knew she couldn't live with herself if she didn't do something right away.
"I'm scared of fire, but when I heard that baby crying, I didn't care," Sarah told CBS 6. "I just knew that baby had to get out. Too many kids dying now." For Sarah, a mother of two, the cries were horrific. It was different than a baby crying because he's hungry or tired: these were the screams of a helpless child.
"That was a different cry from a baby, that I never want to her again," she said. Sarah pushed her fear aside and went into the burning vehicle. She freed the baby from the car seat, saving his life. Another man at the scene of the incident helped free the mother and an older child.
"That could have been me and my kids. That's something I never want to go through," Sarah said tearfully. The children and mother, who was driving the car, were taken to the hospital by ambulance and are safe.
