When 18-year-old Sam Ray was working on his 5,000-lb. truck, he had no idea he was seconds away from putting himself in a very real life and death situation.
He was pulling at a stuck bolt in his truck when it suddenly slipped off the jack holding it up, pinning him underneath. The pain was unbearable, and his screams, though loud, weren't heard by anyone. His ribs were in horrible pain, his face was being pushed under the weight, and his arms were pinned up above his head. No one heard his cries for help; he was all alone.
Suddenly he heard a familiar voice, a voice that he's heard hundreds of times but seemed so out of place in this situation. "How may I help you?" she said from his back pocket. Ray felt something besides pain at this point in his harrowing story, he felt a glimmer of hope!
Siri, his iPhone's digital personal assistant, usually told Ray what the weather was going to be like that day, or what kind of coupons for McDonald's or Ryan's were available, but now it seemed as if Siri was specifically made to save his life!
Through some initial failures, Ray managed to get Siri to call 911. Still unable to use his hands he screamed through the speakerphone to the emergency dispatcher. Eventually help arrived, who airlifted him to the hospital due to the severity of his injuries.
While Ray is still in the recovery process one thing is for certain; Siri, a computer program, quite literally saved his life. This young man is certainly thankful to his new friend, and we're sure he's happy to have made the luckiest butt dial in the history of the world!
