Jeff Rehman is a certified firefighter and paramedic. When it comes to sharing life-saving tips, he's the ideal expert. As you'll learn in the following video, the Heimlich maneuver can help you save someone else's life if they're choking — but saving yourself from choking when no one else is nearby is a whole different story.
It's widely known that if you're choking, you should put your hands up in the air and nod to ask for help. This technique, however, was taught to Rehman by an old boxing coach, and it's something every school should teach. To save yourself from choking, Rehman advises to get down on your knees and assume the same position as if you were about to do a push-up. Next, he says to throw your arms above your head and thrust your torsos to the ground.
This literally knocks the wind right out of us, forcing air up from the lungs and pushing out anything stuck in the throat. As noted in the video, nothing is 100% effective, but this trick will most definitely help and knowing what to do is far better than being clueless.
It's important that everyone learns this life-saving technique. Please SHARE this video on your Facebook page to help save your friends in case of an emergency.
