Since premiering in 1989, Saved by the Bell has become a generation-defining classic, providing a glimpse into 90s teenagedom. From the kitschy punchlines and catchy theme song, to the dramatic ups and downs of the characters’ love lives, Saved by the Bell is a timeless hit.
Whether they are hanging out in the hallways of Bayside High School or sipping milkshakes at The Max, the Saved by the Bell gang always guaranteed plenty of laughs. Zack Morris, Bayside’s outgoing heartthrob, narrates his life and relationships with his friends, Kelly Kapowski, A.C. Slater, Jessie Spano, Lisa Turtle, and Screech Powers, as they navigate crushes, annoying teachers, and questionable fashion choices.
Though the beloved actors of Saved By the Bell will always remain household names, only some managed to skyrocket to stardom after the show's final season in 1993. 1. Mark Paul Gosselaar (Zack Morris)
Zack Morris is Saved By the Bell’s charming protagonist, known for frequently addressing the audience to provide his witty insight. Played by Mark-Paul Gosselaar, Zack often incriminates his friends in his sometimes futile, always amusing schemes. A.C. Slater serves as the resident jock of Bayside High School, adhering to the prominent theme of high school stereotypes that characterizes Saved By the Bell. Though initially a rival for Kelly’s love, Slater ultimately falls for strong-willed Jessie.

4. Elizabeth Berkley (Jessie Spano)
Elizabeth Berkley played the role of outspoken feminist Jessie Spano, keeping Slater in check with her willingness to speak her mind. Like her character, Berkley is a talented dancer.

Straying from the brainy “good girl” that she played on Saved By The Bell, Berkley went on to star in the film Showgirls in the hopes of making it big as a big screen actress. Though the movie was a box office failure, it's turned into a cult classic in recent years, and she's continued to make a name for herself as an author and competitor on Dancing With the Stars.
5. Lark Voorhies (Lisa Turtle)
Known by fans as Saved By the Bell’s daring fashionista, Lisa Turtle was Lark Voorhies’ major breakout role. However, she continued to be a popular television actress throughout the 90s, appearing on shows such as Days of Our Lives, The Bold and the Beautiful, and The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.

Recently, Voorhies’ career has stagnated and she has been making headlines for bizarre behavior. Last year, she failed to appear at a Saved by the Bell reunion on The Tonight Show, citing an intense work schedule as her vague explanation.
6. Dustin Diamond (Screech Powers)
Arguably the most iconic character from Saved By the Bell, Screech is the embodiment of a nerd. As the main source of over-the-top comedy, Screech remained popular throughout the various spin-offs of the series.

Since the end of Saved By the Bell, it has been revealed that Screech’s popularity as a character is not reflective of his behind the scenes persona. In 2009, Diamond published a tell-all memoir, entitled Behind the Bell, harshly criticizing his fellow cast members. Like Voorhies, he did not attend the 2015 reunion because of his recent arrest as a result of his involvement in a stabbing incident in Wisconsin.
7. Dennis Haskins (Mr. Belding)
Dennis Haskins’ role as Bayside’s principal, Mr. Belding, is definitive of his career as an actor. Mr. Belding and his signature catch phrase “Hey, hey, hey what is going on here?” often stand in the way of Zack’s troublemaking antics.

Haskins continued to play Mr. Belding until 2000, when Saved By the Bell: The New Class came to an end. Though he has made guest appearances on popular television shows like How I Met Your Mother, Mad Men, and New Girl, he will always be regarded as America’s favorite high school principal.

Despite the brevity of his two-season run on Saved By the Bell, Ed Alonzo played an important role as Max, owner of the go-to hangout spot, The Max. Besides owning the popular diner, Max was one of the show’s few authority figures, offering guidance to kids through his magic tricks.

Tori Scott, with her signature leather jacket, became a fan-favorite in Season 4 from the moment she parked her motorcycle in Zack’s parking spot and stole his heart.

Appearing for a just a few episodes in Season Three, Leah Remini portrayed one of Zack’s love interests and the daughter of Leon Carosi, the owner of the beach club where Zack and his friends work.

Another guest star, Tori Spelling is one of the most familiar faces of Saved By the Bell, despite only appearing in three episodes. Her character, Violet Anne Bickerstaff, is an endearingly dorky love interest for Screech throughout Season 2.
