Trial Begins For Parkland FL High School Officer Who Stayed Outside During School Shooting

The trial for former security officer Scot Peterson is underway. Peterson formerly worked at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, and was on duty during the 2018 school shooting where 17 students were killed.

Peterson has been scrutinized for not going into the school during the shooting. He has often claimed that he did not enter the building because he did not know where the shots were coming from.

An official report indicates that Peterson was outside the school building two minutes after the first shots were fired. At the time, the shooter was on the first floor of the building, and he managed to make it up to the third floor and to continue shooting.

Peterson was labeled a coward by the public and by family members of the students who were killed. He left his job at the school and moved hundreds of miles away to North Carolina.
