I can't imagine walking along the beach and then hear the squeaking cries one person did, after a terrible El Niño storm. The giant waves separated a mother from what the beachgoers saw was a baby otter. And the poor baby's cries are a heartbreaking thing to hear.
Animal rescue was immediately called, and when they arrived, they devised a plan. The rescuers traveled along the beach, carrying the pup in their arms, hoping the mom would come out and claim her adorable pup.
But the search was not lucky. The mother of the 4-week old female did not hear the squeaking, which the winds may have prevented her from hearing.
The sea otter pup was taken to the local aquarium, where she was evaluated and deemed in perfect health. Without her mom, the pup faces an uncertain future, but has options that will keep her safe. She will either be raised by a surrogate mom at the aquarium where she was treated, or she will be transferred to a permanent home where she will be kept in captivity for her lifetime. Either way, this baby is in good, capable hands!
