This hilarious footage was captured at Ireland’s Colligan Estuary.
Someone with a pretty impressive camera caught a "chubbier-than-average" seal doing this at sea, and I can't stop laughing!
This hilariously chill seal reminds me of the playful baby seal that loved to cuddle with humans or this happy seal who loved taking underwater selfies.
Pinnipeds, fin-footed semi-aquatic mammals best known as seals, spend most of their time underwater. Most seals prefer the cold water of the Northern and Southern Hemispheres. However, they will come ashore to mate, give birth, molt or escape sea-dwelling predators like sharks and killer whales.
They can spend anywhere from a day to a week out of the water. I sure hope this seal is there long enough to attract more admirers.
I have got to assume that this adorable seal was escaping predators. He doesn't appear pregnant and there aren't any other seals around to mate with.
I must also give kudos to the videographer for keeping a safe and respectful distance to the fellow.
“The Marine Mammal Protection Act of 1972 was designed to conserve marine mammals and regulate human interactions with them. This law provides guidelines stating that people should maintain a distance of 150 feet from marine mammals at all times, including seals resting on shore. This regulation not only protects seals from stressful interactions with humans and their pets, but keeps people and pets safe as well.”
See what they caught this seal doing in the video below and SHARE if this made you smile!
