He Found A Secret Door In The Floor Of His Apartment. Inside? I’ve Got Chills…

When a person is searching for new homes, or especially apartments, there are several factors in making a decision: square footage, location, style, and — of course — amenities. Some people just want to make sure there's a dishwasher. Some may require an entire wine cellar. Some people want an apartment with…a terrifying secret buried beneath?

When Reddit user demc7 moved into his new apartment in England, he appreciated the value and the location, but the landlord forgot to mention one big secret about the place.

In his own words: "Yesterday, I moved into my studio apartment. It's in an old English monastery conversion, dates back to the 19th century, I reckon, and now has about 30 apartments. I have a tiny room on the ground floor. Got a great deal on the rent, and didn't realize how much value I got until I moved in and found an area worthy of any movie-grade exploration."

Although it's an old building, the interior feels modern inside with fresh paint and high ceilings.

But the tenant noticed something on the floor the week he moved in...

In the middle of the floor was a secret door the landlord didn't tell him about.

His lease never mentioned anything about this.

At first glance, it just looked like a hiding place for tools and utensils...

...but then he looked a little closer.

There was a staircase leading to a dark, unexplained room.

He bravely journeyed down the stairs with a camera and his flashlight...

...to find what looked to him like a "dungeon."

He grabbed a friend and they continued to explore. They went further and discovered an entire series of 19th century passageways.

The corridor was filled with similar hatches and seemed abandoned for decades, if not centuries.

One hallway led them into an abandoned room with graffiti that suggested someone had been there within the past few years.

The tenant wants to explore the space further, but admits now to being a little "scared of living alone."

It seems like "abandoned dungeon" might be something that should be included on a lease next time.
