In Everett, PA, lots of people who shop at the local Walmart decided to use the Christmas layaway option, which allows people to pick out Christmas gifts and pay for them over time, instead of all at once.
At the Walmart in Everett, 194 people were using layaway to pay for their gifts. Lucky for them, earlier this week, Ryan Kennedy, a store manager, got an anonymous phone call from a man who identified himself as "Santa B."
Santa B. told Kennedy that he wanted to pay for every single item that was currently on layaway at the store, which came to total over $46,000. Kennedy wasn't sure whether or not to believe that Santa B. would actually follow through, but days later a woman came into the store and dropped off a check for the entire $46,265.59. And the check cleared.
Kennedy was in disbelief. He couldn't believe that someone would make such a great gesture. Other Walmart employees were just as shocked, but so happy that someone chose to help out people around the holiday season.
For the next few days, Walmart employees spent hours and hours calling the 194 lucky people, letting them know that their holiday gifts were completely paid off and ready to be picked up.
Kennedy told CNN, "I would just be curious as to what made them choose us, and let them know how grateful we are for the gesture, and how much it meant to the customers that we have been able to serve."
