After sixth-grade teacher Carol Clark was diagnosed with breast cancer, she realized that she had used up all her sick days during recovery from a mastectomy and complications due to chemotherapy. If she missed any more school, she might lose her summer pay, or even her job.
So her husband reluctantly decided to ask coworkers if they would mind donating a sick day or two to Carol. Initially embarrassed by having to ask for help, Carol and her husband were completely blown away by the response. People were so giving — Carol's co-workers collectively gave her 154 sick days — almost an entire school-year's worth of days-off!
Finally back to teaching on the day of her 56th birthday (a birthday she wasn't sure she was going to see), Carol is beyond thankful for the love and support from the people she works with.
"It's not just the donation of the time," Carol says. "It's the heart and the love that they also gave."
