We've all seen movies about the future, scary tales about a time when humanity is competing with robots for survival. While some of these films seem like pure science fiction, there are advancements being made in the field of robotics that are nearing levels only previously imagined by hollywood movie producers. In this clip, a Japanese firm is showcasing their Actroid-F prototype and I have to admit, I was scared by this. The robot looks extremely life-like. Wait until half-way through the video until she speaks – spooky! Could we one day be interacting with robots, and not be able to tell if they're really robots or humans?
We've definitely got a few years on our side, but if life truly does imitate art, how long will it take until robots really come "alive" and challenge us for our very own existence?
How do you feel about this? How long do you think we've got?
