It's no secret that countless cats are need of homes, and what better day than National Cat Day to spread awareness about our feline friends. Take these staggering statistics via the ASPCA:
- Approximately 3.4 million cats enter animal shelters nationwide every year.
- Each year, approximately 1.4 million cats are euthanized.
- Approximately 2.7 million shelter animals are adopted each year (1.4 million dogs and 1.3 million cats).
- About 100,000 cats who enter shelters as strays are returned to their owners, compared to the 542,000 dogs that are returned to their owners.
This video does a great job of getting the message across, while also being so darn cute! These furballs reveal their greatest wishes, and it turns out all they want is love. I wish I could adopt them all!
How can you help? Adopt a cat. Volunteer at a shelter. Donate cat food, beds or toys. Give your cat a little extra love and care. Anything makes a difference, and they appreciate it from the bottom of their hearts.. even if sometimes they can be a little, you know… stand-offish.
