School Says She’ll Be Kicked Out Of Prom For Wearing This Dress. Wait Until You Hear Why!

Prom is the highlight of many girls' high-school experience, but students at Shelton High say their dream night is turning into a headache after the school made a controversial decision about their prom's dress code.

Now that a last-minute dress code is being enforced, many dresses that have already been purchased are no longer allowed. Shelton's high-school principal is threatening to turn students away at the door if their attire is deemed "inappropriate." Stipulations include: no backless dresses, no cut-outs, and no two-piece outfits in which the midriff is exposed.

School officials issued the following statement about the controversy to News8:

“Recently, some students began sharing photos of their prom dresses to administrators and staff, in which a handful were considered inappropriate, too revealing, and overexposed. That is when the decision was made by the Headmaster to re-interate, once again, the appropriate prom dress guidelines. At this point, we are aware of six or seven dresses that have been deemed inappropriate. However, there will still be an opportunity for those students to have that decision reviewed further, as soon as Monday… We don’t want to be in a position to turn anyone away at the door. We want this to be a safe and memorable evening for everyone.”

High schools around the country have been enforcing strict prom dress codes, with one school suspending a student due to her dress.

With prom less than a week away, students at Shelton High School plan on presenting a petition to the Board of Education.

This new petition argues, "There is a sexist and backwards logic that girls must cover up so that boys are not distracted or tempted to behave inappropriately."

What do you think about the dress code? Do you agree with the school or the students?
