10 Surprising Facts About Superstar Sheryl Crow

Sheryl Crow came onto the music scene in the early 1990s, but her hit songs still ring true today.

She's a driven and kind woman who, at the age of 55, also happens to be a working single mom. Sheryl is a force to be reckoned with, and she's battled some hurdles in her lifetime.

When she moved to LA at the age of 24, she had no connections to the music world. She got a waitressing job, which allowed her to go on auditions throughout her days. When she went to parties, she worked hard to get her name out there.

Soon enough, her confidence began to pay off — in small ways at first, then in a major way.

Have you loved Sheryl from her very first album? Did you know these 10 facts about her life's ups and downs as an artist and a woman?

Sometimes, it comes with auditory or visual hallucinations, too. She has this condition in common with her mother.

Sheryl believes very strongly that modern technology is a real addiction. In the same People article, she notes that she doesn't allow her kids more than 30 minutes of screen time per day, and they don't have TVs in their rooms.

She's raising them to be more aware of the world directly in front of them. They don't have smartphones, either! In the same vein, she doesn't like to post pictures of them on social media and looks up to her mother (pictured above, with Sheryl as a baby) as an inspiration for her own motherhood.

She's managed to make an image of a taller Sheryl with tricks of the trade — and heels, of course. Plus, she's so fit and trim that she gives off the illusion of being taller.

In 2006, during a routine mammogram, Sheryl caught breast cancer in its early stages. According to an ABC News report from that year, she underwent "minimally invasive surgery" (a lumpectomy). She then underwent seven weeks of radiation.

She was shocked when she got the diagnosis because she was always a healthy person when she was younger, and it didn't run in either side of the family. It made her realize what stress and environment can do to a person.
