Every summer, I go to put on my jean shorts with my fingers crossed that they'll still fit the same way they did the summer before.
If I find out that they're too small, I push them to the back of my dresser and try to forget about them.
With the pressure from the media and world at large to be stick thin, gaining weight is something many women dread. Because of this, many women try to control what they consume.
Although dieting can be healthy, a lot of people fall into the trap of controlling their diets too much.
According to the National Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders, at least 30 million people in the U.S. suffer from an eating disorder.
One young woman, Alyssa Grace, who suffered from an eating disorder for years, decided to make a statement on Instagram by putting on a pair of her old shorts.

Alyssa posted this photo on Instagram, revealing why she's glad her shorts don't fit anymore.
She wrote:
To my Eating Disorder.
Oh ED… remember these shorts?
When we were together I lived in them.

I saw them in the drawer and the memories were all too tempting.
They.don't.fit.anymore.
In the same way you no longer fit into my life.

And the thing is.. you almost had me.
Remembering our life together was painful and… enticing.
Some days I forget that I'm still getting over you.

Here’s the thing.
I don't want you back.
I don't want "that" body back.
I don't want these shorts back.
I'll find another pair that I won't have to kill myself to get into next time.

Alyssa regularly shares photos of her body, embracing her stretch marks, her "squishy belly," her cellulite, and her weight.
Alyssa encourages other women to strive for body positivity, where they accept their bodies however they look.
