High School Show Choir Concert Loses Power So Audience Helps Out

I started singing in choir at my elementary school and, since we were still pretty young, it didn't involve anything too elaborate as far as song choice or choreography. There was certainly nothing like this impressive blend of classic Simon and Garfunkel songs in our catalog. I wish we could have done something awesome like this empowering Destiny's Child performance, but instead I remember a slightly embarrassing rendition of "Lean On Me" at the end of the year. While the rest of my group were paired off to lean on each other during the chorus, we unfortunately had an odd number of students so I was left without anyone to lean on.

I have a feeling the kids at Davenport High School in Iowa would have had much better luck handling a snag like that in one of their performances. The talented show choir, Northside Establishment, has 48 vocalists, 15 instrumentalists, and a 10 member crew ranging from freshmen to senior students. During their recent performance, they suffered an unexpected power outage that could have ended the whole concert before their big finale. Fortunately, the audience was filled with plenty of quick thinkers.

They begin their medley with a soloist singing Donna Summer's '70s disco hit "Last Dance" before the rest of the group joins in with their harmonious dance routine. After about a minute into the song, they go totally dark. But it doesn't take more than a few seconds for their friends and family to help them out with the flashlights from their cell phones!
