Joseph Land of La Mesa, AZ, waited his whole life to audition for American Idol. But when he stepped into the room and introduces himself to the judges, it didn't take them long to realize Joseph fibbed on his paperwork in order to get on the show.
Joseph tells the judges he's 28, but it's pretty clear that's far from the truth. Simon is especially shocked by the contestant's claim and, as you know, he isn't easily swayed.
Instead of letting Joseph get away with his white lie, he decides to have a little fun with the hopeful contestant by questioning Joseph until he cracks. But first, he lets him sing.
If his looks don't tip viewers off to his actual age, then his song choice and performance style definitely will. Joseph sings a song by Gary Puckett, who all but disappeared from music in the early '70s.
Finally, Simon gets him to admit he's not 28… he's 44.
But it looks like Joseph got his wish to go down in reality TV history… sort of. He has landed on many lists of the best-worst American Idol auditions of all time.
