Waitress Forced To Wear Skintight Dress Fights Back

There are dress codes in most workplaces, but when waitress Tierney Angus saw the new uniform the restaurant picked out for female employees, she was taken aback. Her current uniform was a professional-looking black shirt and black slacks. This was a skintight, body-hugging, short, blue dress. It was certainly not something every woman would feel comfortable wearing.

"I was upset that I had to squeeze my body into something that small," said Angus told CBC. "The material is almost bathing suit-like. It is very tight, very skimpy. I went up a size and my boyfriend commented he could see my tailbone through it."

Angus had worked at the restaurant for three years with the previous uniform. She wasn't the only female employee who felt uncomfortable showing off her body.

"One of the girls I work with mentioned you could see her underwear and the suggestion by my general manager was that she wear a thong if she didn't want her underwear to show, which is totally inappropriate," she said.

The male serves were allowed to wear jeans, a button-down shirt, and tennis shoes. The women weren't even allowed to wear a sweater or jacket over the dress or tights under it. Not only that, but they had to pay $70 out of their own paycheck for the dress. One female employee even quit because of the new uniform. Angus decided to stick it through and she won. The company agreed to allow female employees to opt for the dress or the button-down and jeans.

"Women's bodies shouldn't be used to sell burgers and beer at restaurants. It's completely inappropriate," she says.
