Mom Thinks Teen Is Faking When She Stays In Bed For 5 Weeks, Then Doctor Reveals Rare Syndrome

Countless parents of teenagers can tell battle stories about trying to coax their grumpy kids out of bed in the morning or waking them when they've decided to take a nap.

I know I was a handful for my mom and dad when it came to my sleepy tendencies, but the parents of the young girl in the video below had no idea she was suffering from something much more serious than a little fatigue.

The first time Delanie Weyer had an "episode" of extreme tiredness, she wasn't even in her own bed. Instead, she was on a class trip during her senior year of high school. When she continued to spend weeks at a time refusing to fully wake up, barely getting up to eat and use the bathroom, her mom began to seriously worry.

"I’m the typical mom that would make her, force her to get up, and she’s very irritable, and again, the blank stare. And I questioned was she lying to me, was she being lazy, was she taking some kind of drug," Jean Weyer explains in the video below.

After enduring the frustrating condition without knowing the cause, a doctor was finally able to provide a sense of hope with a diagnosis: Kleine-Levin Syndrome, also known as "Sleeping Beauty Syndrome."

The extremely rare condition is literally a one-in-a-million case and usually affects young men. The family felt immense relief just knowing there would finally be a light at the end of the tunnel.
