When it comes to legendary musicians, Motown crooner Smokey Robinson is definitely at the top of the list of impressive performers.
After a decades-long career writing, producing, and singing — all while racking up countless chart-topping tunes — he's now channeling his passion for music into inspiring younger generations to follow in his footsteps.
This is why he recently made a visit to a small California elementary school, where he showed his support for their music education. As Smokey explains in the video below, he believes those programs help young minds explore creativity while keeping students glued to their desks.
It makes sense when you think about it: If kids are excited about getting to play an instrument or hone their vocal talents, they're less likely to skip out on a day of school.
Of course, the whole town was starstruck by Smokey's arrival that day. The news crew covering the visit even attempted to get him to sing a few lines from one of his classic hits, though he politely declined.
That is, until he heard one young woman belting out the Temptations' song "My Girl," which Smokey penned back in 1964. Though the cell phone footage is unfortunately pretty hard to make out, you can't mistake those iconic vocals as he sings along with the lyrics.
Take a look to see the moment I'm sure no one in that room will ever forget, and please SHARE the awesome duet with your friends!
