People Can’t Stop Laughing About This Mom Asking To Reschedule The Solar Eclipse

On August 21, 2017, a major event is taking place in America.

On that date, the country is going to fall under the path of a complete solar eclipse.

According to Space.com, this "Great American Total Solar Eclipse" is going to darken the skies from Oregon to South Carolina, a total distance of about 70 miles. A total solar eclipse differs from the relatively more common partial eclipse because the disk of the moon will appear to completely cover the disk of the sun as it sits in the sky.

Because the eclipse has to do with the particular timing of the moon's orbit, the total sun blockage takes place at a specific, predetermined time.

Unfortunately, the sun's scheduling doesn't quite work for one busy mom.

The internet descended into hysterical chaos after one mom seemingly asked to reschedule the celestial event on an event page for the eclipse viewing — and some of the responses are too hilarious for words.

It all started when the Perot Museum in Dallas, Texas, set up a Facebook event page for their "Solar Eclipse Party," a free celebration that they are throwing on the day of the eclipse.

The kid-friendly event is going to feature free activities from noon to 2:00 p.m., just ahead of when the solar eclipse will take place.

Things took a turn when a mom innocently posted in the discussion section on the page, voicing her concern about the timing of the party.

"Most kids go back to school that day," the mom pointed out. "Can it be done on the weekend?"

People reacted to the strange question with bemusement and disbelief. Perot Museum, for their part, very politely and nicely answered her with logic.

They pointed out that the event was taking place during the actual eclipse, watching it happen in real time — and so no, there was nothing they could do about moving the time.

Other people were less polite about it, making jokes about the woman's funny question.

One commenter even started a joke poll to see whether others wanted to reschedule the solar eclipse.

So far, the most popular response is "Yes, but at night, I'm too busy in the daytime."

Others offered up faux-earnest, quirky reasons why they can't attend the solar eclipse — like this woman and her cat party.

The Facebook event was quickly bombarded with joking responses and sarcastic cracks about the rescheduling of the sun.

The joke soon made its way across the internet and went viral, as more and more people (including comedy writer Kodi Wynn) took screenshots of the original message and circulated it.

The original comment has (understandably) since been deleted.

Personally, my favorite comment is from the jokester who "offered" to reschedule the eclipse on April 8, 2024 — the actual date of the next anticipated total solar eclipse in America.

Of course, there were some commenters who took pity on the lady. Mary Goodson pointed out the possibility that the woman may have thought the event was just about the eclipse, not realizing it was centered around the actual celestial event.

In any event, the misunderstanding has certainly brought about a good opportunity for some hilarious jokes.
