Charity Lena took her five children and a few family members out for a dinner of pizza and fun. However, when the waiter returned with two pizza pies, the kids were left in shock. The server was their father.
But their dad hadn't switched careers all of a sudden.
Ray Lena, a tech sergeant in the U.S. Air Force, secretly planned the surprise with Mom. Ray had been deployed in Turkey for six months and his children hadn't see him since.
Instead of serving his country, on this day he was serving pizza.
Charity notified the pizza shop and they worked with her to get Ray the employee uniform and the perfect timing for the bait and switch.
"They talked about him all the time and wanted to talk to him on the phone," Charity says of their kids. "I called HeyDay and kind of told them what I wanted them to do. Get a room, I wanted him dressed up like someone at HeyDay to come and serve them food."
Ray announced that he had "pepperoni and sausage," and it took them a moment to realize it was him. "Surprise!" he added.
