Sometimes the most beautiful stories are in the most simple and unexpected places.
On imgur, one user shared the story about how an ordinary DIY project transformed into a bittersweet memorial to his mother.
Sometimes having something to remember our loved ones bye is the only way we can cope. For four years, Jeannette Pechuman fought tooth-and-nail to get her son's burial flag — and some closure.
However, this son had no idea that building this gate would be the one last thing he would remember his mother by.
One day his mother saw a gate on Pinterest and asked him if he could make it for her.
He obliged, as any good son would, and the project brought him closer to his parents. He and his dad enjoyed making wood puns together.
"Just screwing them together won't make it sturdy enough, it'll break after a few months," dad said.
"Not on my notch," he answered.
Unfortunately, three days after her request, his mom checked into a hospital. Then a few days later, she died. She never got to see her son's efforts but that didn't stop him from commemorating her in the most beautiful way.

Three days before she went to the hospital, a 54-year-old mom asked her son to build her a new gate.
"I saw this very nice gate on Pinterest, could you build it for me and replace that old gate?" She said. With a little help from his dad, the son began working on the gate.
Over the course of a few days, the piece started to come together — but also over the course of those days, his mother became more ill.
"My mom asked me to build this gate for her three days before she went into the hospital, and two weeks before she died. She never came home and never saw the finished product," he said.
"Finishing it and hanging it was so hard I almost didn't do it. I wanted to scrap the whole thing, really."
"Looking at the damn thing makes me cry, but once I mount this on there I get the feeling it'll finally feel complete," he said.
It says:
“Ness: If Love Could Have Saved You, You Would Have Lived Forever.”
