It's amazing how families can find ways to be reunited, despite the odds stacked against them. What were the chances of this mom and her daughter meeting for the first time after 77 years? And this mother and son pair after 65? Remarkable!
Now, Janice Wight and Alan Basner can say that they've tackled all of the obstacles that stood in the way of their reunion. The mother and son have finally been reunited — after a no-less impressive 60 years!
Janice was just 17 years old in 1955 when she had Alan out of wedlock. At the time, this was frowned upon and she had to give up her newborn son. She says that she had him for about a week, during which she named him and fed him. Then, she was forced to put him up for adoption.
Three months later, Alan was adopted by Arlene Basner.
Fast-forward almost 60 years, and Alan is still wondering exactly who his mother is. That is, until both families found one another on social media! Now, he is not just getting some answers, but also getting to meet his biological mom!
He tells WNEM, "My mother had no choice in the matter. She was just a little girl herself in reality. And that changes the way that I had always thought it really was," he said.
We're glad that Alan will be able to spend some time with Janice after all, and that both have been able to add to their families!
