On January 2, 2023, Dharmesh Arvind Patel, his wife, and two children were involved in a car accident. Their Tesla fell 250 feet off a cliff on Highway 1 in San Mateo County, California. This area is notorious for car-related fatalities.
When investigators took a close look at the crash, it became evident that this might not have been accidental. Patel, who was driving, was arrested and charged with three counts of attempted murder. Patel’s 4-year-old son did not suffer any injuries from the incident, which is miraculous.
San Mateo District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said in an interview with Fox News Digital that Patel’s son was not hurt in the crash. "Everybody's been talking about … how only a Tesla could drop 250 feet and everybody survives. Well, for the 4-year-old [boy] who was in a child seat, no injuries at all. Every parent ought to keep that in mind," Wagstaffe stated.
Patel’s daughter, unfortunately, was not as lucky as her brother, as she suffered from "significant" injuries. She was discharged from the hospital "fairly quickly." Thankfully, she should not have any lasting long-term physical effects. She was also in a car seat at the time of the crash.
"It's a shocker. I've seen all the photos and video of the car at the bottom, and … knowing that area, knowing that cliff, my belief is that those four people — every single day for the rest of their lives — that they wake up in the morning, they should say thank you,” Wagstaffe stated.
Patel’s wife remains in the hospital recovering from her injuries.
