After spending less than a day celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary on their romantic Hawaii getaway, the couple received a phone that their 21-year-old son, Jordan, was dead.
It was September 26th, 2015. Jordan Barron Roche had been alone in his sister's house when he relapsed for the first and final time, after being clean for over 10 months.
“Most of these kids when they relapse they’re usually alone. Which was the case with Jordan,” explains Jordan’s mom, Rosemary, tears welling in her eyes.
His sister, Alexandria, mentioned that her brother often felt alone, but there was one thing that made Jordan feel alive — music. Through his music he was able to touch the lives of hundreds of people, but sadly, it was the world that brought him to life that inevitably ended his life.
Jordan began snorting heroin when his popularity as a DJ began to soar and he began travelling all over the country. When he finally was able to shake his addiction, he continued to touch people's lives, but not just with his music.
Through conversations with friends via his Facebook page, Rosemary discovered that over the course of his sobriety, he had saved numerous teens, encouraging them to stay strong when tempted to relapse and talking many out of committing suicide.
After listening to their stories, Rosemary knew it was a sign for her to continue Jordan's mission. Over the past five months, she has been organizing an event that fuses Jordan's passion for music and people.
The Jordan Barron Roche Memorial Show, which took place last night and featured almost a dozen bands, took donations in lieu of an admission fee. The goal was to raise money through music programs in order to help individuals struggling with opioid addictions.
