If you grew up with a parent in the military, you understand how hard it is when Mom or Dad is away for months at a time. They miss countless birthdays, holidays, and special events. They also miss out on making memories with loved ones.
Sometimes, all that matters is that the whole family is together for the holidays, especially around Christmastime.
That's exactly what second-grader James Croot asked Santa Claus for this holiday season.
The 7-year-old's father, Sgt. Aaron Croot, has been serving overseas for the past nine months — meaning that he hasn't seen his son or the rest of his family the whole time. The boy wrote a letter to Santa asking him to bring his father home.
James stood in front of his classmates during his school's holiday concert and read his letter out loud. Of course, he had no idea that the soldier was standing just offstage, waiting to hug him for the first time in months.
The heartwarming moment was caught on camera, and the two couldn't look any happier!
The father had no idea his son had asked for the gift of his homecoming, but still managed to grant his one wish.
