Brittany Parchman brought her 6-year-old son Christian onstage in front of 1,500 colleges students. The little guy had no idea what was about to happen. The Songs of Love Foundation, a national nonprofit, brought the students over to serenade Christian. The boy has been battling leukemia, and the students wanted to cheer him up.
Songs of Love and the students created a song with original lyrics that has the spirit of Rachel Platten's "Fight Song." The crowd stands up and surprises Christian who was stunned that so many came out just for him. They even recorded the song on CD so that he can hear it whenever he wants.
"It made me feel happy," Christian said. "My favorite part is about Boomer [the Pacer's mascot], because he's my favorite."
"They can play these songs during hospital treatments, like for instance during chemotherapy it helps distract the kids from the pain," said founder and president of Songs of Love, John Beltzer.
While Christian will have to continue his battle, sometimes laughter, happiness, and a little love can be the best medicine. In a difficult battle, a few moments where the little guy doesn't have to think about chemotherapy, needles, or tubes, can make all the difference.
