Big cereal news today, everyone. Sour Patch Kids cereal will hit stores on December 26. That's Sour Patch Kids, in the form of breakfast cereal. While you're probably crinkling your nose right now, an early review says that it's actually pretty good.
The new cereal is a collaboration between Sour Patch Kids and Post Consumer Brands, the company behind classics like Raisin Bran and Honey Bunches of Oats. According to reviewer Lee Breslouer, these mad food scientists managed to nail the flavor profile without making it taste gross.
"The tagline for SPK is 'Sour Then Sweet,' and this is it, chief," Lee wrote in Thrillist. "How the heck did they make cereal taste like this?!"
Surprisingly, the sour taste doesn't transfer to the milk — a major concern. Instead, the milk gets pleasantly tart.
"It’s like if you made Fruity Pebbles cereal milk and added a magic dusting of that tart flavoring," Lee assures us.
When the cereal hits stores the day after Christmas, it'll be available exclusively at Walmart for $4 per box.

In general, people are not exactly clamoring to get their hands on this odd-looking Frankenstein of a breakfast food.
Reactions on social media have ranged from "NO" to "GROSS" to "WHAT WHY."
However, one lucky insider got his hands on a bowl of the cereal ahead of its release and wrote a review for Thrillist. According to him, it's not nearly as bad as it sounds. It's actually tasty!
Lee Breslouer wrote that the cereal pieces "look like dehydrated tiny Sour Patch Kids, and the colors are fairly similar!"
He ate it with 2% milk, and he said the first bite tasted like your standard sugary breakfast cereal.
"But something was different!" he continued. "Holy moly, they nailed the sour flavors. And not in a bad way, because it’s also still very much a sugary cereal. The tagline for SPK is 'Sour Then Sweet,' and this is it, chief. How the heck did they make cereal taste like this?!"
Indeed, Lee says the cereal basically tastes like Sour Patch Fruity Pebbles. In a not-bad way.
Fascinating.
If you're now experiencing a sudden intense craving for Sour Patch Kids and don't want to wait until December 26, definitely don't just throw some Sour Patch Kids into a bowl with milk. That does not work, according to Lee.
