South Carolina Musician Mocks Protesters And Goes Viral

A South Carolina musician’s attempt to mock the Ku Klux Klan has gone viral after a bystander shared it on YouTube.

Matt Buck spotted members of the extremist group during their march to defend the Confederate flag. In turn, he began playing songs on his sousaphone to make a joke of their protest.

"I didn't really know how to show my opposition, so that was my way of doing it,” he told the Charleston City Paper.

The first tune Buck played was one the cartoon character Stewie performs on an episode of Family Guy where he follows an obese man while playing tuba. The other was Wagner's "Ride of the Valkyries” in reference to a Nazi scene from the 1980 film Blues Brothers.

The Ku Klux Klan’s march comes weeks after the Confederate battle flag was removed from South Carolina’s Statehouse grounds in the wake of the Charleston church massacre. The flag has long been a symbol of controversy and an indication of racial divide. Many continue to show opposition to it, including those participating in the #NoFlaggingChallenge. With his music playing, Buck clearly showed his stance.

"A few people had a few things to say, but nobody really confronted me or anything," he said. "My goal was to embarrass them, and I think I did a little bit."
