We all know the story of Gilligan's Island, even if we've never seen a full episode, thanks to the show's catchy theme song spelling out the plot for us. Unfortunately for the poor couple below, their island mishap wasn't quite as quirky as those fictional characters would make you believe.
The pair were attempting to travel from Weno Island to Tamatam Island in Micronesia. Linus and Sabina Jack found themselves capsized on the shores of an uninhabited island known as East Fayu Island. After going missing on August 19, 2016, authorities were finally able to track them down six days later, thanks to some old-fashioned survival skills.
It's incredible that they were even able to last so many days before help arrived. I can't imagine going a week without the comforts of home, let alone being left to rely on the elements of a remote island. Thank goodness they never gave up on themselves.
After attempts to use their flashlight at night to signal rescuers had failed, they went back to the basics by carving the distress message in the sand.
They somehow managed to pull their boat onto the shore, something that likely came in handy as shelter while attempting to survive.
Linus and Sabina eventually caught the attention of US Navy aviators, who snapped these photos of their discovery.
Initial attempts at retrieval by the authorities were hindered by their original vessel's inability to navigate the deep waters, but they returned again with another boat up to the job.
In the meantime, they shared these photos on Facebook with the hopes of positively identifying the individuals as Linus and Sabina.
It's terrifying to think of what they might have endured while waiting for their rescuers, but the miracle of their recovery is absolutely heartwarming.
