It must have been a strange sight to see to the passer-by who sounded the alarm: eight pregnant cows had somehow found their way into the Atlantic ocean!
Farmer Alan Fagoe says that the cows somehow broke through the fence and wandered down the cliff face. The inquisitive animals were then swept away by the tide when they found themselves trapped in a cave in the ocean. The farmer suspects that the electric fence was turned off.
The eight frightened cows were rescued by Coast Guard rescue crews over the course of five hours, and one even got wedged in so far into a cave that it had to be pulled out from behind! Rescuers swam the animals to a part of the coast where they could walk up to the mainland.
Fagoe said, “We had to lasso them one at a time and pull them across. It wasn’t always easy, it was a fairly daunting experience.”
The farmer let his cows rest following the rough rescue, giving them warmth and love to recover from the harrowing experience. As it turns out, all the cows are perfectly healthy, as are all of their babies!
If you're thankful for their rescue, and yet a tiny bit amused by the cows' little adventure into the ocean, please SHARE!
