When Laura Hidalgo and her family went to eat at a McDonald's, the mom had no idea that they would all learn an important lesson that day: all it takes is one simple act of kindness to spur a chain reaction.
Of all people, it was one young man's gesture toward another that ultimately left several members of her family in tears — and reaching into their wallets to help an unfortunate soul.
She writes on Facebook that a young homeless man wearing no shoes and carrying a bucket, cup, and umbrella walked into the restaurant. While most people would have been repelled by his condition, another young man who walked in after him took pity and gave him his shoes.
When both Laura's father and daughter saw what had transpired, they were compelled to show some kindness, too.

To the young man who came into McDonald’s and helped this poor soul, I want to say thank you, for you showed my kids a great lesson.
The young homeless man in the picture came into McDonald’s barefooted [sic], muddy, an umbrella, a bucket, and a cup. In a period of minutes of him sitting down, this young African-American man came into McDonald’s and gave him his shoes.
We were stunned by the show of compassion and kindness, and it truly brought us to tears. The young man left and the homeless man put on the shoes immediately. My father went and asked the homeless young man if he was hungry and he answered humbly, “yes I am.” My children watched as my father bought him a meal but when the young man left his cup, another man placed a $20.00 bill under his cup. Thank you sir, for showing this act of kindness.
Again, the demonstration of kindness overwhelmed us and my daughter was in tears and she went to our car to get her wallet. She took out her $3.00 from her wallet and gave it to the young man as well.
There are no words to explain how we were all touched and we all cried for this poor soul. We as parents try to teach our kids kindness but this will forever be etched in their hearts.
In the end, it was this young African-American man who came back and gave the young man clothes too. We were floored. I don’t know who you are sweetie but please know we saw and I am so proud of your kind heart; for it blossomed into a random act of kindness from so many to this young man.
