Mom Hears Daughter Scream On The Phone, Realizes Teen’s Car Just Crashed Off The Road

There are few things worse than being a parent and knowing your child is in danger while you're unable to help them.

Toby Allen knows that feeling of helpless terror all too well.

She was on the phone with her daughter, Gwen. Then Gwen and her two friends got in a car crash.

"[I felt] terror. Because you could hear the terror in the girls' screams… 'cause they were shrieking," Toby explains.

The three girls — Gwen, Sydney, and Tierney — were leaving a Kansas City Royals game when the unthinkable happened. Their car was T-boned on the passenger side and flipped twice before landing upside down on the road.

And all this happened while Gwen was on the phone with her mom.

Toby remembers, "It was the scariest thing I had ever heard."

Sydney and Tierney were able to get out of the car, but Gwen was stuck upside down in her seatbelt, screaming. Toby helplessly listened on the line.

Then Gwen heard a man's voice. It was a Good Samaritan who had seen the crash. He immediately helped Gwen get out of the car.

Toby and the girls later learned that the man was a father himself, Larry Rutledge.

The Allens and the girls still can't believe what happened. One of them remarks, "If you look at the pictures [of the crash], it's a miracle that we basically walked away unharmed."
