Music can do so much more than create a good sound. It can unite people, excite people, and simply make people feel things.
So when Ted Yoder wants to entertain his family in the video below, he decides to take out his hammered dulcimer. For many of us, that is a foreign name. But for Ted, it's one of his favorites!
It looks almost like an extravagant xylophone, but really it's a percussion instrument with numerous strings stretched over a trapezoidal sounding board.
While all instruments are interesting and usually captivating to hear, such an unordinary instrument makes this performance even better. Especially with its unexpected sound.
This hammered dulcimer does not sound anything like a typical percussion or even string instrument!
When he starts to hit the strings, if you close your eyes, I guarantee you'll hear a piano. But it's not one!
It's so shocking when you hear the first few notes, but as he continues playing "Everybody Wants to Rule the World," you'll be captivated by the musicality of it all.
Just wait until his pet raccoon comes in! This guy definitely has a fun-filled life.
