See How To Turn Styrofoam Into Aluminum

Turning Styrofoam into aluminum might sound unbelievable to many, including myself, but it turns out that it's certainly possible.

In the below video, Grant Thompson, who runs the YouTube channel “The King of Random,” proved that you can transform a Styrofoam gun into one made of the chemical element.

We’ve already shown you how to make a homemade air conditioner out of Styrofoam, but who would have thought the banned New York City product could do something even more spectacular?

First Thompson printed out a picture of a gun and then covered it with layers from a foam board. This created a 3D effect. He then placed the Styrofoam gun in an upright position in a bucket filled with play sand. He then began pouring molten aluminum.

“When we pour molten aluminum into the makeshift funnel, the foam at the bottom vaporizes in an instant and the liquid aluminum rushes in to take its place,” Thompson explains. “You can see it all happens very quickly so be sure you’re pouring fast enough to keep the funnel full, but slow enough to stop when it’s done.”

Ten minutes later, the incredible aluminum creation is ready. As Thompson says, it's "almost like magic."
