Drop An Ordinary Piece Of Ice In The Toilet At Nighttime To Wake Up To Snow In The Morning

When you're a kiddo stuck going to school in the middle of the winter, just about every day is spent praying for a snow day!

After all, who wants to go sit in a stuffy classroom when you could be running around outside throwing snowballs?

Of course, what kids don't realize is that us grownups want snow days too! In fact, no matter what your age, occasional snow days have all sorts of awesome benefits!

So whether you're 6 or 56, this might be the absolute perfect time of year to try to tip the scales in your favor.

Instead of just waiting around for nature to dole out a big ole snowstorm, there are a handful of old-fashioned tricks that people have been using for generations to try to get the snow to fall.

Now, mind you, none of these are scientifically proven — but they sure are fun! Besides, when it comes to securing a snow day, every little bit helps!

Scroll through below to see our eight favorite silly tips for getting a few flakes (or feet!) to fall this winter!

#1: Slip A Spoon Under Your Pillow

According to some sources, this old-fashioned notion dates all the way back to the time of the pilgrims!

It's hard to know the exact logic behind the myth, but we imagine it's something along the lines of the cold spoon under the snowy layer that is the clean, white pillow.

Trying this trick is simple enough: just stick a spoon under your pillow and hit the hay. With any luck, you'll wake up to a fresh blanket of snow.

#2: Wear Your PJs Inside Out And Backwards

This is a classic!

For generations, people have been swearing up and down that wearing your jammies inside out and backwards helps entice a snowstorm.

To give this a shot, turn your coziest PJ's inside out, then put them on back-to-front and head to bed.

#3: Flush Ice Cubes Down The Toilet

In the great pantheon of snow-day myths, ice cubes come up a lot.

We're guessing the idea is that "like calls to like."

If you flush your freezing-cold ice cubes down the toilet, maybe the snow senses the void and comes to dump a half-foot on your roof!

Hey, we'll give it a shot!

#4: Shake Your Snow Globe!

If you have a cute snow globe on display in your house somewhere, give it a shake!

The notion behind this one is that if you create snow on a tiny level (in a snow globe), it will have a ripple effect in the real world.

Plus, as an extra bonus, snow globes are really pretty with all of that glittery snow swirling around.

#5: Dig Into Some Ice Cream

You don't have to ask us twice!

Look, we know there's not really a connection between ice cream and snow, but if you give us an excuse to eat ice cream, we're gonna take it.

One pint of chocolate-chip cookie dough, please and thank you!

#6: Stack Pennies On Your Window Sill

We have no idea why this has developed into such a strong part of the snow-day myth, but pennies are a major element of the folklore.

Stack pennies on your windowsill — one for every inch you want to get – and, according to legend, the snow will arrive.

Maybe it's payment to Jack Frost?

#7: Put An Orange In The Freezer

The freezer part is pretty obvious, but we don't have a clue about the orange — maybe because it's a fruit that grows in warm climates, but that's in season during the wintertime?

Regardless, this is another easy way to try to buy yourself at least a snow delay, if not a whole day off!

#8: Say A Little Prayer

No matter what you believe, it never hurts to just ask for it!

If anyone is listening in, be it a higher power or the Abominable Snowman, you just might catch the ear of someone with a little pull over the weather.

After all, if growing up with siblings taught us one thing, it's that the squeaky wheel gets the grease.

Have you ever seen any of these old superstitions do the trick? Or are they just a good way to entertain the kiddos?

Let us know what you think below, and don't forget to SHARE with anyone hoping for a snow day of their very own.
