While style trends evolve from decade to decade, some of them tend to come back in fashion.
Whether it’s the braids worn by women in early-1900s Mexico or the loud makeup colors of the 1960s, it's not surprising to see older beauty standards being embraced by the women of today's generation.
The same can be said about women's swimsuits. It might be hard to believe, but some of the bathing suits from earlier decades aren't that much different than ones worn by females in the sun today.
In the 1950s, for example, women were proud to flaunt their bodies and sported bathing suits that emphasized their hourglass figure. Does that sound familiar? Today, women are encouraged to stop looking to thin models for inspiration and start embracing their curves.

The 1920s
It may look like a tank top, but back in the day these were what many women wore to the beach. Socks were also often worn with the swimsuit.
The 1930s
This decade had bathing suits that were a more formfitting and not too far off from the one-pieces you'd see on the beach today.
The 1940s
The bikini was first introduced in this decade – 1946 to be exact – but the belly button was rarely shown.
The 1950s
This decade was all about showing off a hourglass figure, hence the corset like swimsuit.
The 1960s
In this decade, the belly button was on full display and so were bright colors.
The 1970s
There was nothing wrong with being revealing in this decade. These bathing suits also appear very similar to ones worn today.
The 1990s
Being sporty was a good thing in the '90s. And, who could forget Pamela Anderson's red bathing suit from Baywatch?
Today
It seems that today anything goes. And, there are swimsuits for all body types and fashion preference.
