On a cold day in December, a father in Canada was driving home from work when he made a shocking discovery.
As temperatures fell below freezing, the man pulled his car over to decide if he should plow the snow-covered roads. That's when he spotted a tiny kitten shivering on top of a white polystyrene box that blended in seamlessly with the snow. It's a miracle he even noticed the box at all.
He stopped in front of the box and peeked in. There was another kitten inside, ill and starving. The two had been using the box as shelter, cuddling against each other to keep warm. It appeared as though someone had been coming by to feed the cats, as there were cans of empty food inside the box, and branches on top of the box, presumably to keep the top on. But the kittens were only a few months old, and whatever care they had, it wasn't enough. One of the kittens was on the verge of dying.
The man brought the cats back home to rehabilitate them. It didn't take long to see just how strongly they were bonded by their nightmarish experience; the second one was separated from the other, they'd meow continuously until they were reunited.
The family named the kittens Tango and Cash. They bathed them, fed them, and wrapped them up in warm blankets. They took them to the vet, and dedicated themselves as a family to nursing Tango and Cash back to health. They also fell in love, and couldn't bear to part with them, or separate them at all. Tango and Cash were home for good!
These days, Tango and Cash live the good life. Tango is the extroverted one who loves to run and play. Cash, who was the sicker of the two, is fully recovered but is the introvert of the family.
Kindhearted strangers who followed Tango and Cash raised money to help the family pay for vet visits. Some even donated toys and medicine!

On his way home from work one winter afternoon, a father found a box on the side of the road. No one was prepared for what happened next.
The white box was placed under thick branches, presumably to keep the top on. It's a wonder he even noticed the box as all, as it's barely visible from the road.
There was no one around. No houses, no traffic, no people. Thank God this man was driving by when he did, because he was about to unearth a miracle... or two!
Upon further investigation the man realized something had been using the box as shelter from the harsh winter cold. Temperatures were well below zero this time of year in Canada.
When he peaked in, his heart broke. Inside the box were two starving kittens, shivering and in need of immediate care. There were also two dishes of food with a blanket -- but whatever care the kittens had received, it was no way near enough.
The poor kittens only had each other, and kept themselves warm by cuddling against the other's fur. It's a heartbreaking sight, but this day would change their lives forever.
The man and his family picked up the box and brought the cats to back to their home. One cat was more visibly healthy than the other, though they were both underweight and terrified.
If one kitten was separated from the other, they meowed continuously until they were reunited again. It was clear the neglect they suffered closely bonded them together.
The sicker kitten needed part of her tail amputated. The vet found a wound and said the end of the tail was cold and limp.
Both of the kittens were malnourished, but the family couldn't deny they were the sweetest cats imaginable. Food, warm blankets, and lots of attention started to pay off.
The family did whatever they needed to do to nurse the kittens back to health. This cat was in better shape than the other...
...Who, as you can see, was very underweight. But she was a fighter.
The kittens started to eat and retain their own heat. As it turned out, the cats -- who the family named Tango and Cash -- were not female, but male!
Their sweet sides continued to shine through. Here's one of the cats, insisting on rubbing up against anyone who will let her!
The family provided the pair with all the necessary medications. Thankfully, strangers around the world followed Tango and Cash on their journey online, and donated money for Tango and Cash's medical bills!
Tango and Cash are a couple of loving, affectionate boys. The family who nursed them back to health fell so deep in love, they adopted them forever! They remain joined at the hip, cuddling up together like they did when they were kittens. Only now, they're happy and healthy.
The family says, "If you’re going to get a cat, make sure you do research first. Cats are a furrever friend. They’re not disposable, despite what the person who abandoned these cats might think."
