While on their ski vacation, the Storch family was struck with tragedy.
Their 13-year-old daughter stumbled backward, hit her head on a tree, and became brain dead.
Doctors asked parents Todd and Tara if they would donate Taylor's organs. Knowing how giving Taylor was, they agreed that she would want it.
Organ donation is the biggest gift you can give someone: a second chance. For example, when Sue Ellen Monaghan's son passed away, she was proud to discover her son had registered as an organ donor and was able to save a life.
“Taylor was a giving, wonderful person, and I looked at Tara, and we knew exactly that’s what Taylor would do. She was so giving, and that choice was very, very easy,” Todd said.
Meanwhile, another mom, Patricia Winters, was dealing with cardiomyopathy for five years. Patricia's condition was degenerating, causing her to sleep 18 hours a day.
“I felt like I wasn’t going to last too long,” Patricia said, worried about her husband and two young boys.
Then Taylor's gift came along. Todd and Tara's decision to donate her organs meant that Patricia could live to take care of her family.
The two moms managed to track each other down and meet. The emotionally charged moment is unforgettable.
