The internet can be a really cruel place. As teens get caught up in the race to go viral, they can show little regard for the feelings of anyone who ends up as collateral damage. Ameera Peterson, a 17-year-old in Dallas, Texas, became a victim of one thoughtless Twitter user's campaign for internet likes when she discovered her yearbook picture had been used in a tweet by Twitter user @69boosie, who goes by "Meera."
The tweet was to be a joke about a "glo up," a transformation from less to more attractive with age. The tweet from @69boosie read "idc what nobody has to say!! I had the BEST glo up in the century." The images used as the "before" image is that of Peterson, who has Down Syndrome.
Peterson spoke with CW33 about discovering the cruel tweet, admitting she was angry. Her mother Rita added, "Kids with special needs, they have feelings and emotions just like everyone else."
Luckily, haters and mean girls can't dampen Peterson's shine. She loves getting glam, dancing, and rapping. She even wrote a rap about the situation, which you can see in the video below. (We think it's a certified jam.)
And, proving that the internet isn't a complete dumpster fire, the good people of Twitter had Peterson's back. Many Twitter users were quick to jump to her defense and celebrate the teen's true beauty — and call out "Meera" for what she did. As of the time this post was published, @69boosie has yet to show any remorse for her actions. Moreover, rumors of a fight involving "Meera" related to the viral tweet have sparked an investigation with the Mansfield ISD Police Chief, CW33 reports. What tweets around, comes around.
On the bright side, Peterson and her mother's message of love and acceptance has prevailed. As Rita noted, "We always look great, we are always beautiful."
