22-Year-Old With Terminal Cancer Racks Up Debt for the Best Reason

The biggest question in life we all have to answer is what are you going to do with the time you’ve got? For most of us the question is an abstract one considering we don’t know exactly how much time we have. But for one young girl on Reddit she unfortunately does, and it sadly isn’t long.

A 22-year-old Redditor explained that she has bone cancer that has spread throughout her entire body. She weathered the storm for two years, did chemo and even lost her leg, when the treatment suddenly stopped working. She was given weeks to a few months to live and decided she was going to make the most of it: By maxing out her credit cards.

The young woman claims as someone without a home or a car (and only £2k) in the bank, the debt will die with her, so she unapologetically bought a lot of things for her family, which was mostly sentimental things with her handwriting on them. She also got herself “fancy” crab at a seafood place and donated a lot to animal shelters and food banks as well as the charities that helped her with her battle.

Overall people were very supportive of the young girl, saying that she has every right live the rest of her days in as much comfort and joy as possible. In fact, they encouraged her to take out more.

In most cases in the U.S. and the U.K., the concept of debt dying with a person makes sense. Unsecured debts like credit cards do not get inherited, and creditors can only seek payment from the estate (meaning homes, cash, or investments) that are left behind. None of which this cancer patient has.

While she may not have long, she can make the most of what she has while she can. And hopefully that makes the end a bit more peaceful.
