A Texas police officer was about to go on his lunch break when he received a call about a toddler in distress. He immediately jumped into action on Sunday and rushed to the child’s location.
“I didn’t know if it was a drowning. I didn’t know if she was choking on something,” Officer Patrick Ray recalled to Dallas-Fort Worth's Fox 4 News.
As soon as Officer Ray arrived at the house, the child’s mother desperately ran towards him with little Bexley in her arms. Like the officer who saved a 7-month-old after administering CPR, Officer Ray grabbed the child and knew exactly what to do, as seen as the emotional 1:52 mark. Seconds later, the baby is heard crying, a sign that she would survive.
“It was the scariest thing to hand her over to somebody I didn’t know but I put all my faith and all my trust in him that he knew what to do,” said mother Tammy Norvell.
Moments before Bexley stopped breathing, the mother and daughter were playing outside in their yard. Out of nowhere, the 22-month-old went limp and started turning blue. It turns out the baby had swallowed a coin.
“If it weren’t for him, I could be picking out a casket today, living every parent's nightmare…and I’m not,” said Norvell about Officer Ray.
