Sharon Briggs thought some of her most precious family memorabilia had been destroyed in several house fires, so she never even bothered to look for them.
But, years later, a woman named Chandra Mays found an orange suitcase in her house. Inside the suitcase were old pictures, a military flag, and a Bible. Mays felt this suitcase was probably of great value to whoever the owner was.
"When I originally started going through the suitcase, it became more significant than just a batch of photographs, especially after I found the flag,” said Mays.
Instead of just throwing it out, Mays posted some of the photos from the suitcase on Facebook. Social media helped Mays find Briggs, just like the time a burn victim used Facebook to track down the loving nurse who cared for her almost 40 years prior.
Being reunited with the suitcase meant a lot to Briggs, especially since she hadn't seen some of the family photos for 50 years. The moment also meant a lot for her daughter, who was looking at the photos for the first time.
"I've never really seen pictures of my mom when she was so young," her daughter said. "I can't believe how much I look like my mom."
