The Beach Boys Perform For The First Time On British TV In The 1960s

In this rare video, the Beach Boys give for their first-ever British TV performance. You can tell that the crowd is extremely anxious in waiting for the host to introduce the well-liked group and get on with the show.

The Beach Boys perform “Get Around” and “When I Grow Up To Be A Man” on a tiny stage surrounded by an overly full crowd of adoring fans. And, to add to the vintage appeal of this rare piece, all of their dedicated fans were dressed in classic 1960s attire while the band wore matching striped shirts and fitted pants.

From their matching clothes to their beautifully blended voices, the band wows the audience instantaneously. So much so, that when they take a short break between songs to be asked questions by the host, they can barely get a word in from all the screaming adoration the fans have to offer.

One question in particular was about the distinction between surfing and music. The host, not quite sure what the meaning of "surf music" entailed, was answered by one of the Beach Boys, who said that it's beat music with surfing-related lyrics on top of it. It's a genre that, in a way, the Beach Boys invented.

I think videos like this one serve as a beautiful reminder of the great music that came before the 21st century, and how much it’s impacted music released shortly after.
